Identify Markdown, rich-text, and spacing problems
If the font, color, or heading size changed, you are probably dealing with rich formatting. If stars and hash signs appear literally, the destination may not render Markdown. If a name looks right but will not match a record, inspect the actual characters. These symptoms call for different fixes.
Keep a short original sample and describe the expected result. “This heading should become one plain line” is easier to solve than “make this text normal”. A precise goal also gives you a way to verify that the cleanup preserved the information that matters.
Convert AI formatting without losing text structure
Try the destination’s plain-text paste option when only styling is unwanted. If literal Markdown remains, convert that layer separately. If an unusual character is causing a mismatch, remove or replace that specific character rather than stripping all punctuation or all non-ASCII text.
For a list, decide whether numbering communicates sequence. For a quotation, preserve attribution and boundaries. For a table, make sure each value stays connected to its label. A simplified appearance is not an improvement if readers can no longer understand the relationships in the original.
Preserve code, links, tables, and equations
Mixed answers need more care than ordinary paragraphs. A code block may need its surrounding fence removed while the code inside remains exact. A link may need both its label and URL preserved. An equation can lose meaning if a visible symbol is treated as decoration.
Work on these parts separately where possible. Paste a small sample into the destination and inspect the result before converting an entire document. This is particularly useful for forms or publishing systems whose interpretation of tabs, line breaks, or pasted HTML differs from your editor’s preview.
Check formatting after pasting into the destination
A preview in the cleaner confirms only what the cleaner produced. The destination may still add its own styling, normalize spaces, or interpret markup. Repeat the action that originally looked wrong and compare the result with your stated goal.
Read the final version for paragraph boundaries, list order, citation details, names, and numbers. If the issue repeats, trace the source-to-destination path and adjust the template or export step responsible. A reliable workflow solves the recurring cause instead of depending on increasingly aggressive cleanup every time.
Formatting cleanup vs AI authorship detection
An em dash, a Markdown heading, or a non-breaking space does not establish who wrote the content. Change formatting for readability and compatibility, and review factual accuracy separately. Keep any required disclosure and source attribution.
The result should be a draft that fits its destination and still says what you intended. That is a concrete, testable outcome; a promise that the same edit makes text “undetectable” is not.
