Choose the right format for email, documents, or code
An email needs readable paragraphs and working links. A form field may need a single plain-text value. A document may benefit from headings and a table. A source file requires exact syntax. Those goals should determine the cleanup mode.
Copy only the passage you need rather than a whole conversation with interface text or unrelated answers. Keep the source draft until the final version is verified. This gives you a reliable comparison if a link, quotation, or important line disappears during conversion.
Check ChatGPT headings, lists, tables, and quotations
Look at headings, list order, quotations, code blocks, and tables. Decide what should survive. If numbered steps describe an order, keep that order explicit. If a quote loses its block styling, retain quotation marks and attribution so the boundary remains clear.
For tables, check that each value stays connected to its label after conversion. A row that looks tidy in a chat window can become ambiguous in a plain-text field. When the relationship is important, rewrite the row as a short labeled sentence instead of relying on spacing alone.
Find and remove unwanted hidden characters
A failed lookup, unexpected wrap, or strange pasted field is a good reason to check code points. Review the findings and choose the smallest useful transformation. A no-break space may need replacement; a deliberate language joiner may need preservation.
Do not use an aggressive cleanup just because the source was ChatGPT. Ordinary text can contain meaningful Unicode, and interface artifacts do not prove a provider watermark. Keep punctuation conversion separate from invisible-character cleanup so each change has a clear purpose.
Verify facts and citations before publication
Verify names, dates, amounts, and quotations against reliable sources. Open cited links and confirm they support the specific claim. Remove unsupported assertions or revise them to match the evidence. No amount of character cleanup can make an inaccurate answer reliable.
Read the passage in your own context. Does it answer the actual question? Does it include unnecessary detail or omit an important qualification? A shorter, better-supported draft is often more useful than a polished paragraph that remains generic or incorrect.
Paste and check the final document
Review the destination after pasting. Check line breaks, link targets, list order, and any field that relies on an exact match. For code, run the appropriate checks. For a published page, inspect the real page rather than only an editor preview.
Keep any required AI-use disclosure and attribution. Cleaning technical artifacts does not change the drafting history. Your finished result should be readable, accurate, suitable for its destination, and honest about the assistance involved where that information is required.
